Since Kincaid's main area of research is Information Visualization, he has been intrigued with the notion of artistic renderings of real information. A new direction in art is the aesthetic representation of information rather than physical objects. Traditional representational art usually renders physically real people, places and things in the form of portraits, landscapes, still lifes, etc. Information Visualization as an artistic practice provides the opportunity to display information in either abstract or allegorical ways that move beyond traditional object-centric art. While hopefully pleasing to the eye as conceptual art, an underlying concrete meaning is still accessible to the observer. Unlike purely abstract art, there is an underlying concrete interpretation of the visual elements.
